THE FINE CHEESE CO. BATH

Our cheese shop in this beautiful Georgian city

Shop, Kitchen & café in one

Located in the Bohemian quarter of the historic city of Bath, the Walcot Street shop is our original store.

Inside, you’ll find traditionally-made artisan cheeses, charcuterie, wines, accompaniments, chocolates and other fine products from across Britain and Europe, hand-selected by our team of cheese and fine food specialists.  Within our range are exclusive cheeses made by master affineurs such as Walo von Mühlenen, Rodolphe le Meunier and Joseph Paccard.

Next door, the aroma of Le Piantagioni del Caffè’s coffee, brewed by our baristas, will soothe your senses as you choose between our freshly made cakes and savouries that have been baked by our head pastry chef, an alumnus of the Valrhona School of Grand Chocolat. For those eating in, our team of in-house chefs will dazzle with their monthly-changing seasonal menus, and their dishes made from scratch with only the finest ingredients.

Our wines, available by the glass or carafe, have been selected to pair perfectly with our menu. Recommendations can also be made for the right bottle to match your chosen cheese and charctuerie to take with you. So pop into our Walcot Street shop and pick up something delicious.

Our shop in Bath is open Mon – Thu  9am – 4pm, Fri – Sat 9am – 5pm, and for those living elsewhere in the UK, our cheese selections, feasts, hampers and cheese celebration cakes can be ordered via our website www.finecheese.co.uk

Meet the team

LAURENT, HEAD CHEF

Having worked at Michelin star restaurants in France and the UK, Laurent joined The Fine Cheese Co. Bath as our Head Chef, and we’re so happy to have him here. He revels in the creativity and freedom of the profession and this really comes through in the menus he creates.

When it comes to cooking with cheese, Laurent loves the texture and creaminess of our Caseificio La Baronia Mozzarella di Bufala DOP and feels it has such versatility for hot and cold dishes alike.

Laurent is a man of many talents. Outside of the kitchen, he’s either painting, having won several national awards back in France, or officiating for Team Bath’s swimming galas and competitions.

GAUTAM, HEAD PASTRY CHEF

Gautam cut his teeth at the School of Grand Chocolat Valrhona and the Callebaut Chocolate Academy. In our eyes, his desserts and pastries at The Fine Cheese Co. have already reached legendary status!

Gautam is a man who enjoys the classics, with our menu’s cheesecake and friands ranking among his favourites. However, if you ever want to bake something for his birthday, we hear he has quite a soft spot for Black Forest cake.

The always-happy Gautam also loves to help out with charity work when he can, with a very special Hospitality in Action event at Beaufort Polo Club ranking among his proudest achievements.

NICK, HEAD CHEESEMONGER

Nick was crowned champion of the 2015 Cheesemonger Invitational in his native America, and recently represented the UK at Mondial du Fromage, winning the title of Fourth Best Cheesemonger in the World!

After leading our London team, Nick has now taken up residence at our Bath cheese shop, where he shares his passion with all and sundry. He's also frequently found in the cheese rooms at our affinage, where he collaborates on cheese care and maturation.

An unapologetic food obsessive, Nick's spare time sees him either in the kitchen, on rambles to collect wild garlic and nettles, or on missions to add to his personal whisky collection.
