Product Description

The rolling hills, vineyards, and hazelnut groves of the Langhe in southern Piedmont are famed to gastronomes worldwide, but the land sports a rich dairy history as well. Significantly, the region is known for its Robiola soft cheeses, which the families behind Caseficio dell’Alta Langa have been involved with since the 19th Century. The most famed is Robiola di Roccaverano, a goats’ milk cheese with a fluffy interior and running edge. The famed La Tur is a nod both to this specific cheese, and to the local tradition of mixing milks in lean times. It is crafted from the milk of cows’, goats’, and ewes’ milk, and takes inspiration from cheeses made across the nearby border with France with the addition of fresh cream. The fresh curds are gently hand-ladled into moulds, and the delicate cheeses are ripened for just over a week until their rinds begin to ripple with a dusting of geotrichum mould, yielding a yeasty and floral aroma. It is famously indulgent, with a buttery and oozing creamline that gives way to a nearly fluffy interior with bright, citrusy acidity and spreadable softness. It is equally at home at either a picnic or a soiree, and pairs perfectly with nearly any sparkling white wine.

FAQs

What makes The Fine Cheese Co. unique?

We select and mature traditionally-made artisan cheeses from independent producers who prioritise quality over profit.

For over thirty years we have nurtured and supported the cream of British cheesemakers, and we played an integral role in the revival of traditional British cheesemaking in the early 1990s.

We produce our own range of Partners for Cheese, and our cheese and partners are supplied to hundreds of UK retailers and exported to over 50 countries world-wide.

Who are the founders of The Fine Cheese Co.?

We were founded in 1990 by Ann-Marie Dyas, a renowned judge at both the British and World Cheese Awards and winner of the Guild of Fine Food Lifetime Achievement Award. Ann-Marie was committed to the survival and growth of traditional cheesemaking and to introducing and sharing farmhouse cheeses, as well as the stories behind them, to as wide a public as possible.

Ann-Marie's mission was "To seek out the best, and, when it’s been found, to keep looking". This same tireless pursuit of excellence is the core value across the company.

From the producers we choose to work with to the coffee we serve in our café, we want to give the best possible experience, while continuing to find ways to improve upon it.
