Soft - France

Complex. At the same time, it is rich, vegetal and ‘mushroomy’. Made since 1930 by the Dongé family, one of the cheese’s last seven producers. The Medaille d’Or is an award that might be won once in a lifetime. Family Dongé have won it nine times.Unfortunately, Brie de Meaux is currently out of stock. This is due to a temporary ban on the import of French and Italian raw milk soft and semi-soft cheeses due to an outbreak of a disease in cattle. There have been minimal cases, but DEFRA are maintaining a very cautious approach to protect our British herds.Suggested Alternative: Baron Bigod (Click Here)An excellent Montbeliarde milk cheese from Suffolk, made in the style of Brie de Meaux but demonstrably its own unique cheese. A full flavour and a fabulously gooey texture.

Product Description

This Brie comes from the third-generation Dongé family dairy in Meuse, France, famed makers of Brie de Meaux. The pasteurised version is produced in tiny quantities to the same exacting standards with hand-ladled curds and milk from local farms. Rich and smooth with a lightly vegetal, mushroomy flavour, it is a fine example of French Brie.

*A whole Brie de Meaux weighs approximately 3kg. Smaller weights are a cut of a whole cheese.

FAQs

What makes The Fine Cheese Co. unique?

We select and mature traditionally-made artisan cheeses from independent producers who prioritise quality over profit.

For over thirty years we have nurtured and supported the cream of British cheesemakers, and we played an integral role in the revival of traditional British cheesemaking in the early 1990s.

We produce our own range of Partners for Cheese, and our cheese and partners are supplied to hundreds of UK retailers and exported to over 50 countries world-wide.

Who are the founders of The Fine Cheese Co.?

We were founded in 1990 by Ann-Marie Dyas, a renowned judge at both the British and World Cheese Awards and winner of the Guild of Fine Food Lifetime Achievement Award. Ann-Marie was committed to the survival and growth of traditional cheesemaking and to introducing and sharing farmhouse cheeses, as well as the stories behind them, to as wide a public as possible.

Ann-Marie's mission was "To seek out the best, and, when it’s been found, to keep looking". This same tireless pursuit of excellence is the core value across the company.

From the producers we choose to work with to the coffee we serve in our café, we want to give the best possible experience, while continuing to find ways to improve upon it.

If I order now, when will my parcel arrive?

If you order with us before noon, Monday to Friday, we are able to arrange for your parcel to arrive on the following day (except to certain postcodes in Scotland).

We have a calendar feature on our checkout page that enables you to select a delivery date of your choosing.

Our mail-order department is not available at the weekends, but our shops are open. Please see our shop page for further information.

Freshly Cut & Wrapped

We unashamedly source, care for and sell the best cheese, because that is what we believe in. Our trained cheesemongers cut every piece to order, and wrap it in our waxed paper. We do this because it is the most respectful way to treat this precious food.
