We suggest that you only eat hard cheeses during pregnancy.
Harmful bacteria, such as listeria, can be present in all cheeses, whether pasteurised or unpasteurised. Listeria can only flourish in suitable conditions, the most important of which is moisture. Mature, hard cheeses do not have enough moisture for the listeria to multiply to a sufficient enough degree to pose a risk. We do not recommend you eat soft, bloomy, washed rind or blue cheeses during pregnancy, whether the cheeses are pasteurised or not.
